About Lennie & his River Retreat
Imagine, a 45-year-old male workaholic, freshly divorced, sitting at his kitchen table cluttered with computers, monitors, drawings, pencils and coffee mugs. Another 70–80-hour work week. Since starting my business, this was a typical week. 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day. I was exhausted, aimlessly staring at the TV. I thought to myself, there has to be more to life than this. I promised at that moment that I was going to make a change. So, I bought a motorhome, an old jeep and rented my house to a friend. Off I went on a yearlong adventure. I went to the east coast, out on the outer banks, took a ferry back to mainland, travel all the way across the south in the dead of summer, drove up the inner mountain range to Canada, and back down the west coast before heading home. It changed my life. The people I met, the things I saw, caused my whole world to stop. Once back home I renovated my house with the plans to keep renting it, move into my barn out back and start leaving minimally. BAM! Woke up to a fire and lost everything I own. The newly renovated house and the shop out back survived, but all my worldly belongings were gone. Except the old camo shorts I was sleeping in and my phone. Needless to say, losing everything has a way to make a person look at life with respect. With the help of a couple close friends, I was able to survive until I could get a few essentials replaced, namely a car. For the next two years I traveled and worked, for 3 months every winter. First in Costa Rica, and then Honduras. I was awake finally! I happened across this piece of land that a friend of mine bought and was selling. It was originally built in the 60s and had a nice two-story house, large shop, a cabin, 7 RV spots and its own concrete boat ramp onto the Missouri river. Unfortunately, years of neglect and some floods had it looking pretty sad. I didn't hesitate and bought it. I poured all of my knowledge from a year on the road into it. Out of all the places I stayed, my favorites all had a few things in common, they were quiet, they were shaded, they had great Wi-Fi, they were clean and well kept, had good on-site people and had nature. Here at Lennie's, we have all those things.
